Pottery or enamelled ceramics has developed in the city of Fez since the beginning of the 11th century, and since then it has been its undisputed capital. Generations of potters have passed on, transmitting their wonderful knowledge to the present day.
A true work of art, each piece is unique because it was shaped by hand, and required four steps following a long process. The potter shapes the block of clay, prepared and worked, in order to give the shape to the desired object after which, it is put in the oven for a first firing, it then passes between the hands of the decorators who, under the orders of the “Maalem” adorn these pieces with blue or polychrome patterns on a white background, geometric figures, flowers, letters and stylized texts. The ingredients of the colors used are part of ancestral knowledge, and remain confidential to obtain these incomparable "blues" of FES. Then comes the last firing which will give it the final glaze.
